Funny slots that provide enough entertainment, as well as a good sense of humor don’t come up as often as you might think. Fortunately, IGT is here to save the day with the Cops and Donuts slot machine. It’s a hilarious game that centers on the stereotype of policemen and their favorite snack – donuts. There’s really much to love about this game. The graphics are very high-quality and fit the whole comedic theme perfectly. What’s more, there are plenty of interactive bonus features, which have kind of become an IGT hallmark over the recent years. Aside from getting a good kick out of the amusing police officers and convicts on the reels, you might also work up an appetite with all the delicious treats that are constantly on display. Of course, the iconic donuts are there, but alongside them are cinnamon buns, cakes and other appetizing pastries. Coffee cups, both regular ones and paper cups, will be there to serve as another stereotypical attribute. And what’s a good coffee break without coffee anyway, right? But you’ll also find imagery related to the actual job of the officers of the law. There are fingerprints, handcuffs and a roll of yellow barricade tape. And if anyone would like to oppose what we said earlier about the graphics – keep in mind that Cops and Donuts is a 2011 slot machine. And they’re still cool graphics, even today.

First off, let’s start with the base game, which features a regular set of 5 reels and 3 rows. There are a total of 20 paylines in Cops and Donuts. And for being a live slot machine, this one provides a rather wide betting range of 1p up to $50. What’s more, the reels showcase a variety of different entertaining symbols. Don’t expect to see the boring old playing card symbols – the developers have skipped those, making room for more icons. Beginning with the lowest paying symbols, you will see paper coffee cups, pink glazed donuts and another pastry. Following them are the two police officers and after them – their chief. He is the highest paying of the regular symbols. And as such, he can award you up to 1000 credits for 5 symbols of a kind on a payline.

But the symbol you really might want to look out for is the game’s Wild. Since this is a police themed game, even despite the donut stereotype, the Wild comes in the shape of a badge. It can replace any of the other regular symbols to help create winning combinations on the reels. But if you can land a combo of 5 Wilds anywhere on the reels, be ready for some big payouts. They will award you 10,000 credits! Keep an eye out for the game’s Scatter symbol, though. It represents an angry criminal, posing for a mugshot. This is the only symbol the Wild cannot substitute for.

As we already pointed out earlier, this game’s main highlight are its bonus features. There are only two of them, but wait until you have activated them. The first one in line is the Speed Trap Bonus feature and it’s probably our favorite of the two. To trigger it, you will be looking to land a police car on the first reel and a speed limit sign on the fifth. To indicate the bonus, a highway will spread across the reels to connect the two symbols. This will then take you to a new screen and will present you with a very familiar, to most, situation. A cop will pull you over and you will have a list of excuses to choose from. The possible answers as to why you were speeding include not having speed limits on your planet. Other comical options are “My wife’s crazy and I had to rush home to bring her medication”. Alternatively, you can choose to say your eyes were closed. Each of the options will guarantee you a prize, and perhaps even a second pick. But if you manage to convince the officer, who pulled you over, he will double your winnings! And he’ll also offer you a donut.

And our next and final stop is the Donut Eating Bonus. To activate this one, you will need to land three Fresh Donut symbols. Once you do, a new screen will display officer Chip standing by a donut stand. First you will need to choose a ticket, which will reveal the number of picks you get from the layout. You can get anywhere from 2 to 6 picks, allowing you to choose from the available donut trays. Each tray will have an attractive cash prize waiting for you, as you watch Chip eat the donuts on it.

Cops and Donuts is a very entertaining sot and it does its highly reputed developer justice. It’s fun and lighthearted, as well as colorful and full of various animated features. The interactive bonus rounds are of course the main attraction here, offering lucrative prizes and even more entertainment. But there’s plenty to like about the base game, as well. Furthermore, there are many additional functions to provide players with enough information regarding gameplay, which is also a nice touch.
